The Sudbury Community Midwives have been offering primary care services to low risk women since 1993.
- Midwifery services are fully funded by the Ministry of Health and Long term care, and regulated by the College of Midwives of Ontario.
- Midwives have a 4 year BHScM degree plus one year of supervision as a new registrant, similar to a residency year.
- Women are welcome to contact our office directly as no referral is required, however you can complete a referral form (below) and fax it to 705-523-1100.
- The first appointment is a 30 minute non-clinical visit to discuss what services we offer, answer any questions, and identify high risk women not appropriate for midwifery care.
- Normally women enter midwifery care early in their first trimester of pregnancy, and are discharged from our care at 6 weeks post-partum.
- Newborns are cared for from birth to 6 weeks post-partum
- We will make available to you copies of laboratory reports, pap test and swab results, and birth summaries with the woman’s permission.
- All midwives within our group have privileges at Hopital Regional Sudbury Regional Hospital.
- Clients are cared for by a small team of midwives, all of whom adhere to the core principles of midwifery which respect:
- Birth as a normal life event
- Continuity of care
- Informed choices
- Choice of birthplace
- The appropriate use of technology
- Spending time with women
